Arequipa - Rattrapage

AREQUIPA - Rattrapage.

Lors du derner article nous etions a Cuzco, et aujourd'hui nous sommes a Lima. Donc a priori, nous avons continue noter route au nord sans trop se poser de question, en allant au nord de Cuzco donc a Lima... Et ben non, ce n'est pas pasque beaucoup de touristes prennent un avion de 2h enter Cuzco et Lima que nous avons fait la meme chose. Ce serait trop facile, surtout pour ce blog car je pourrais terminer cet article ici et vous donner rendez-vous au prochain episode. Mais non.

Il y a environ 10 jours nous avons laisse Cat a Cuzco pour nous rendre a Arequipa. Cat va rester plus ou moins un mois a dans la cite des Incas pour attendre sa copine Hanissa qui vient faire l'Inca Trail fin Avril, et en attendant elle va faire un peu de volontariat ainsi que quelques cours d'espagnol. Bonne chance Cat, amuse-toi bien a Cuzco!
Nous sommes donc allez a Arequipa, la Ville Blanche du Perou car tout les batiments sont construits avec la pierre volcanique appellee Silar de couleur Blanche, vous l'aurez devine. Arequipa est tres tres sympa, un peu plus basse en altitude que Cuzco (2200m seulement) donc le climat est plus doux. La ville est aussi appellee la "Rome de l'Amerique du sud" car c'est une ville tres catholique avec une foultitude d'Eglises (blanches donc), pleins de couvents et une tres riche histoire colonialo-catholique. Nous sommes alle visite l'enorme couvent de Santa Catalina, une ville dans la ville avec de tres jolis batiments de couleurs, des jardins, etc...
A Arequipa nous avons aussi trouve le college Marcelin Champagnat, le meme que celui dans lequel nous sommes alles a Pelussin pendant notre enfance !!! La photo ci-dessous en est la preuve, et si vous voulez la faire passer a Mme Avril a Pelussin ca la fera surement rire!

AREQUIPA - Catching Up.

The last post on this blog took place while we were in Cuzco and today we are in Lima. Everything seems logic, we left north after Cuzco and we're just going the right way... Well apparences are sometimes false and we did not take a straight road or a plane as many tourists do to get to Lima... We made it more complicated for this blog (because it means at least 2 more posts for me to write...) but more interesting for you, we went south.

10 Days ago we left cat in Cuzco where shell be busy volunteering for South American Explorers (a nice club of travellers in South america who are providing help to other travellers) and going to more Spanish Lessons. She'll stay there a month till her friend Hanisa arrives there to go to Machu Pichu. Suerte to you Cat !!
We thus left south to Arequipa, the White City of Peru with all it's buildings made of Silar, a white (there we go!) volcanic stone. Arequipa is a lot cooler than Cuzco or other cities in the Andes because it's altitude is only 2200m. The city is also called the "Rome of South America" because it is full of Churhcs, Covents and Colonialo-Catholic history. We visited the huge Santa Catalina Covent there ,and it was impressive how the covent is a city inside the city, with amazing colorfull buildings and nice gardens.
In Arequipa we also went into the Collegio (Junior High School) Marcelin Champagnat, the same we went to 12 to 15 years ago in Pelussin in France. It was a real nice surprise and if you see some of my teachers from this time you can forward them the picture below!

Arequipa c'est donc tout ca, mais surtout c'est une super base pour aller faire des treks, des balades en montagne, pour se faire plaisir quoi. Nous sommes donc alles au Canyon de Colca, un des plus profond canyon du monde avec ente autres de magnifiques condors. Nous voulions aussi grimper en haut d'un des enormes volcans qui entourent la ville, mais le temps etait un peu mauvais lorsque nous voulions le faire donc on a laisse tombe. On se fera un gros trek plus tard dans la Cordiliera Blanca. Et a Arequipa on reviendra dans quelques annees pour se faire la tourne des volcans! 6000m a la pelle !!!

Arequipa is all this then... But for me it is first and foremost a great base for going trekking in the surrounding mountains and Canyons. We went to the Colca canyon, on of the deepest in the world and trekked there for 2 days with JB. We saw Condors, Lamas, great flora... Unfortunnatly we didn't make it to one of the impressive Volcanos around the city. The weather wasn't very good when we wanted to go there. We'll go high later in the Cordilliera Blanca, and Arequipa will have to wait for me to get back there in a couple of years in order to do the Volcanos Tour. 6000ms and more!

LE CONDOR THE CONDOR

A Arequipa nous avons aussi retrouve Segolene, Maxime et Matthieu, 3 francais avec qui nous avions fait un petit bout de chemin en Bolivie. ce fut tres sympa de les retrouver, et comme ils voulaient aller au nord nous avons pris le wagon avec eux, et nous sommes partis dans notre marathon le long de la Panamericaine. Mais ca c'est pour le prochain article!

Finaly in arequipa we met again 3 french friends, Segolene, Maxime and Matthieu. We had met them earlier in Bolivia end it was a pleasure to see them again. We went together north, along the Pacific coast of Peru driving on the Panamericana! But that is a story to be continued...
